Jeanne Beker strips her walls for the AGO

Jeanne Beker shares three decades worth of memories in the art form with the AGO.

The Art Gallery of Ontario Collector’s Series provides an insider’s look at the personal treasures of notable Canadians. Launched last year with an exhibit of works collected by Kevin Hearn of the Barenaked Ladies, the second annual series exhibit opened this week with a peek into the private art collection of Fashion Television host and Toronto Star contributing editor Jeanne Beker.

Toronto’s Frederick Watson was primarily a fashion illustrator when he painted this fabulous picture back in 1957. Frederick, who’s now a very prolific painter, is a big fan of Fashion Television and I had the pleasure of befriending him about 10 years ago. I was elated when he generously presented me with this ultra-glamorous piece, which hangs in my living room. It makes a strong statement about the symbiotic relationship between art and fashion.
